A custom home high in the hills of Sonoma, years in the making.

A few years ago I received a call from a then independent client and now friend, by the name of Carrie.

Carrie owned property in the west hills of Sonoma and was considering a large landscape project. She was in need of drone photography and video to survey the vacant parcel.

We scheduled a time and proceed to capture the property from the sky.

Three years later, Carrie called again.

This time she was considering selling her custom home (which I was completely unaware of during our initial drone photo shoot). Carrie hired a real estate agent from San Francisco who enlisted their own photographer to photograph the home. While the results were OK, they were not to Carrie’s standard.

Based on the listing price ($18+ million) and the fact that a set of photos were already submitted and deemed unacceptable, I decided it would be a good idea to preview the property before agreeing to photograph it.

Upon arrival, I realized what my previous drone photography and video session helped materialize. A stunning, mile long driveway that elegantly twists and curves up the hillside. Flanked by an array of gardens, olive trees, lavender, wisteria, and more.

At a flat summit, a large, single story home emerged.

Adorned with floor to ceiling windows, dense exterior textures, and stunning color palate of beautiful copper and auburn hues.

I was in awe. I had never quite seen a home like it (and I see roughly 300-400 homes every year).

After an extensive tour joined by upbeat conversation, I agreed to photograph the home.

My favorite feature of the home? A spacious powder room adjacent to the great room. Vibrant blue walls painted with Italian lacquer compliment a mesmerizing, infinity bathroom sink constructed entirely of blue tigers eye. That’s right, the mineral that all kids come to love when first learning about crystals and minerals. The stone typically exhibiting a shiny collection of gold and brown colors.

I didn’t even know blue tiger’s eye existed…

Below are some of my favorite images from the photo shoot.
